A Year Of A Life Less Busy

A year ago I began this blog as a way of making a commitment to creating a life less busy. Since then I have managed to slow down by simplifying my schedule, de-cluttering my home and taking more time to think about what kind of life I want to be living. In many ways I feel like I have succeeded, but there are some areas I still need to work on.

By simplifying my life I have created space to enjoy some of the things I used to struggle to find time for. Being a working mum is still a big juggling act and I’ve realised that one of the things that triggers stress for me is time pressure. As a family we have reduced our commitments and eased this stress a little, but the day to day routine of work and school continues to leave me more frazzled that I would like. One challenge that remains for me is to spend less time looking at screens. By setting up a blog and associated social media, I found I was spending even more time online. My goal this year is to have a bit of digital detox and get some clear boundaries around when and how I use technology. As with everything in life, it can be a tricky balancing act and something that will require some trial and error.

I may post less regularly than in the past but I will almost certainly continue to focus on cultivating a simpler and less busy life. My hope is that by sharing my own journey I may have been able to inspire others along the way.

For anyone who is looking for ongoing inspiration I still post regularly on my Twitter and Instagram accounts. You can also check out this blog post which includes links to other websites and blogs that have inspired me along the way. Thanks so much to all those who have followed and supported me along the way. I do, for the most part, feel like I have achieved my goal. This isn’t a goodbye, just a bit of an adjustment of priorities and a way of explaining why I may be posting less than in the past. I encourage everyone to take the time to think about what it means to have a good life, and how slowing down can help you discover your own serenity.

  1. Good on you! It’s so easy to lose sight of what is important and if you are at the stage of life where you are a young mum juggling work, husband, children etc it can be all consuming. Enjoy your little bit of extra time. 🙂
