(So Far) Out of my Comfort Zone

I have made the decision to slow down and eradicate the ‘busy’ from my life. And what better way to make sure I stick to my goal than going public? For anyone who knows me the whole ‘going public’ thing may be a little bit surprising. I like to hide in the shadows and keep myself pretty much to myself.  The problem is, I’m a bit of an ideas person, always coming up with a new plan, or ten. The process usually follows the same path…..brand new idea, huge excitement, more ideas to expand on the original idea, twenty new books on the subject, hours spent on Google, life gets busy, tired of idea, disillusioned, walk away……brand new idea, huge excitement….and on it goes.

So this time, I’m not letting myself off the hook as easily. I WANT a life less busy. I wan’t my uninterrupted leisure time. I want to create wonderful family memories for my children. I want to be a calm, caring, contented person. I am going to stick to this!

Best way to commit to something…. throw myself so far out of my comfort zone that I have no choice but to sink or swim.  The possibility of public ridicule and humiliation should be enough to spur me on and at least keep my eye on the goal.  This matters to me! I don’t need to make money out of it. I’m not trying to get famous. I just want to make a change in my life and so I’m putting it out there for everyone to see (gulp).

So, like a terrified rabbit in the headlights of an oncoming truck, I invite you to either ignore or follow along with me as you choose. I have no expectations for anyone other than myself, but I’m really looking forward to the journey and am especially looking forward to reaching my goal.

Having established that I’m now completely out of my comfort zone it is probably worth mentioning the kind of approach I’m going to take to this whole sharing thing. I don’t want to be all preachy and teachery and trying to tell people what to do. What I do believe is that it’s important to walk your talk and so if I say I’m going to slow down, simplify my life, discover serenity and live a life less busy…..then I need to actually do that.

There are two quotes that I have on my wall at home that help me stick with this mindset.

Be the change you want to see in the world. Mahatma Ghandi

Yesterday I was clever,
so I wanted to change the world.
Today I am wise,
so I am changing myself.

My plan is just to do what I do, and be who I am, and hopefully that will turn out okay for those I come into contact with along the way. I value integrity and humility enormously and I hope that is what will come through in what I share here.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment. Hope you enjoy reading the blog. I don’t post a lot but am still very much invested in slowing down and creating a simpler life. It’s baby steps, but I feel like I’m making progress. 🙂
